So
many straps so little time. After a long day of riding what is
more frustrating than having to untangle your tie-down straps?
After dealing with this for quite some time we put our minds
to work and came up with an inexpensive solution for
organizing your tie-down straps. If you have a little bit of
mechanical ability and some pretty basic tools you can create
these strap organizers for your trailer or garage wall. Supplies
you will Need: 1.
Pre-drilled Angle Iron Stock . This can be purchased at any
home improvement store. It is typically used for hanging
Garage Door Openers. 2.
A Tape Measure. 3.
Moto-Tool,
also known as a Dremel Tool, with Fiberglass cut-off wheel, or
a Metal cutting Chop-Saw. 4.
Grinding Stones for Moto-Tool. 5.
Drill and Drill Bits. 6.
150 Grit Sand Paper. 7.
Automotive Primer and Paint of your choice. We
start by wearing our Safety Glasses and a good pair of leather
gloves. We used our Moto-Tool to cut our angle iron into
lengths that are suitable for our trailer wall. We chose
12.5" in length. This should accommodate 8 tie-down
straps. After
cutting them to length we removed the sharp corners by cutting
them off with our Moto-Tool at an angle. We used our grinding
stones to remove all of the sharp edges from our cuts and
round any corners. Use your 150 Grit sand paper to smooth the
rough ground edges. Take your time on this step because you do
not want any sharp edges that might cut you. After
clamping the piece to our work bench, we then enlarged the pre
drilled holes to accommodate the thickness of our tie-down
strap hooks. We them switched bits and drilled three small
mounting holes to attach our organizer to the wall of our
trailer or garage. Once again, take the time to remove any
sharp edges or burrs that the drilling has created. We
sanded the parts with 150 Grit sand paper to etch the surface
for our primer to adhere. We primed the parts with Automotive
Primer/Sealer and allowed them to dry. We then shot them with
a couple of coats of Good Quality Wheel Paint. Mount
two of these, a couple of feet apart, and you can cinch the
straps down and keep them from banging around. That
is all there is to it. About an hour and a little elbow grease
we have a way to hang our Tie-Down Straps to keep them from
getting wadded up and tangled. |
