ODI Lock-On Grips:

Review:

With the purchase of a new set of aftermarket handlebars we need some replacement grips. Anyone that has replaced their grips knows the pains of keeping their grips in place. Some people swear by messy grip glue and even everyday over the counter hairspray. Both of these methods are messy and have disappointing results.  What are our options though? Well we heard about a Lock-On Grip system from ODI. ODI makes grips for many applications including, Motorcycle, ATV, Personal Watercraft, and Bicycles. They offer a couple of different styles of grips. Their unique patented grip lock system includes two billet aluminum rings that clamp the grip to the handlebars.

We contacted Blowsion Kustom Design and ordered a set of the ODI Lock-On Grips in the 103mm Ruffian flangeless style. These are actually marketed for watercraft. We received our grips from UPS in a few days. You can also order them direct from ODI via their Website. The retail price for the complete starter set is $19.99 plus shipping. ODI offers an optional Billet Aluminum end Cap as well. The retail price for these are $11.19 plus shipping.

Installation of the grips was very straight forward and simple. You attach the billet clamp rings on each end of the grips and slide them onto your handlebars. Once the position is set where the outside end of the grip is flush with the handlebar you tighten the clamping rings with an Allen Wrench. Insert the end cap into your handlebars and tighten the Phillips Screw to secure it. That is all there is to it. No messy glues or drying time.

Do they turn? We grabbed one of the installed grips with both hands and tried to rotate the grip. Did it turn? No it did not. It does exactly what ODI claims. It locks on. We think that the grips are a little on the pricey side since replacement grips are priced at $17.99 plus shipping.

Conclusion:

We feel that ODI has a great product that should last us quite some time. We would like to see the price of the starter kit around $15.99. We look forward to putting the grips through the elements of water, sand, mud, and heat. Check back for our Long Term follow up.
